Water Supply to Kg Sg Cawang, Teluk Intan, Perak.

A proposal on ground water abstraction and treatment for a remote area at Kg Sg Cawang was proposed to the Perak Water Board recently. The village is situated in Mukim Durian Sebatang and about 19 km from the main road Jalan Changkat Jong-Teluk Intan.  It was opened in 1981 and currently inhibited with 40 families. On 19th April 2017, YAB Menteri Besar Perak came to the village for inaugural visit of rural electrical supply project by TNB. In his speech YAB Menteri Besar Perak has shown his inclination of using ground water as proposed by USM and as mentioned earlier in the speech given by YB Dato’ Mohd Azahar Jamaluddin (Member of State Legislative Assembly, Changkat Jong). During this ceremony the Head of USM Water Security Cluster, Prof Ir Dr Mohd Nordin Adlan has the opportunity to submit the proposal of ground water supply to Kg Sg Cawang to the Chief Minister of Perak.

Presenting Concept Paper on Integrated Water Supply System for Tioman Island.

Following the meeting and site visit to Cameron Highlands on 27 and 28 February 2017 with senior officers of Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, a concept paper was drafted and presented to the CEO of Malaysia Water Security Commission (SPAN) on 5 April 2017 at 2.30pm. USM team that were attending for the presentation of the concept paper included Prof Ir Dr Mohd Nordin Adlan, Prof Hamidi Abdul Aziz, Dr Mohamad Fared Murshed, Dr Puganeshwary, Dr Nuridah Sabtu, Dr Nurul Hana and Dr Herni Halim. SPAN was represented by their CEO Dato Mohd Ridhuan Bin Ismail, Puan Azlinda Binti Abd. Ghani (Senior Executive), En Ahmad Rozian Bin Othman (Pengrah Eksekutif, Jabatan Kawal Selia Pembentungan), En Alan Lim Chong Beng and Puan Noor Zarina Mohd Nazir both from Kettha.

Visit to Cameron Highland with KSU KETTHA

Visit to Cameron Highlands with Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang, Secretary General, Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water were carried out on 27 and 28 February 2017. USM staffs were invited by the ministry to accompany the visit. They were led by Prof Ir Dr Mohd Nordin Adlan (Head of Water Security Cluster), others were Dr Mohd Remy Rozainy, Dr Anuar Kamaruddin, Dr Nuridah Sabtu and Dr Nurul Hana Kamal Mokhtar. Amongst the objectives of the visit were to identify possible CSR water supply project at the MTD settlement at Blue Valley, possibility of research collaboration with Yayasan Hijau at their Research Station, BioD Centre Reach, Gunung Brinchang, possibility of research and consultancy works at Terla water intake and an integrated water supply and sewage system for selected islands in Malaysia.

‘Pilot Project: Water For Life' 2016 NBOS Competition Winner

‘Pilot Project: Water For Life', a community water supply to Kampung Air Sungai Simpul, Sungai Jernih, Selama Perak has won the 2016 NBOS Competition under Civil Service Category. The announcement was made in a colorful event at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Friday evening 9th December 2016. The winner has received RM30,000 from the Secretary General of Treasury, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigal Abdullah. The winning team consists of Ms Izziantee Izzahan, Prof Ir Dr Mohd Nordin Adlan, Ms Noridayu Adnan and Prof Dr Hamidi Abdul Aziz. They were from Pejabat Daerah dan Tanah Selama (under Kelab PETANDA) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (under Water Security Cluster). The competition is divided into 3 categories: Civil Service, Social Entrepreneurship and For-Profit Business.
